STONES

Amazonite

Amazonite is a lovely blue and green stone often streaked with white. It is an extremely soothing crystal and is believed to calm the brain and nervous system.


Amazonite is said to dispel negative energy and to improve confidence, leadership and communication. It is a useful stone to wear or carry if you have to face a challenging situation, have a difficult question to ask or have to speak in public. It is a good stone for writers and artists as it is thought to enhance self-expression and creativity. It can also be an aid to seeing both sides of a problem and in analysing and sorting out information.

Amazonite is said to be helpful for osteoporosis by assisting the body with the absorption of calcium. It is also said to be of benefit for relieving menstrual cramps and muscle cramps.

Amazonite is associated with the Heart and Throat Chakra.

Amethyst

Amethyst is said to aid creative thinking and spiritual awareness. It is a protective stone and wearing it as jewellery or carrying it in your pocket is said to protect against psychic attack. Placing Amethyst by the side of your bed while you sleep is thought to reduce nightmares.

In healing Amethyst can be placed on the Brow and Crown Chakras. It is believed to ease headaches, release tension, relieve physical and emotional pain and help combat addictions. It is also reputed to reduce swellings and bruises. In ancient times it was fashioned into a drinking vessel, as it was believed to cure drunkenness.

Moonstone

This milky, translucent crystal is believed to be strongly connected to the moon. It is a calming stone and can be very effective in soothing the emotions.

It is said to help reduce PMT and to lesson the problems associated with the menopause by slowing down the hormonal changes. Rose Quartz

Rose Quartz is a translucent or transparent pink crystal. It is known as the 'Love Stone' and is said to be the stone of unconditional love. This crystal opens the Heart Chakra and is believed to encourage forgiveness and to help you to let go of anger, resentment and jealousy. Rose Quartz can also support you in learning how to love yourself and how to receive love from someone else.

In healing Rose Quartz is said to smooth the complexion, sooth burns and blistering, strengthen the physical heart, alleviate vertigo and heal chest, lung, kidney and adrenal problems.

Turquoise

Turquoise is perhaps the oldest stone in man’s history, the talisman of kings, shamans, and warriors. It is a stone of protection, strong and opaque, yet soothing to the touch, healing to the eye, as if carved from an azure heaven and slipped to earth. Its unique shade of blue, often blue-green, lends it name, Turquoise, to all things of this tranquil hue. The delicate veining or mottled webbing in cream or brown is inherent to the stone and serves to enhance its character.

The name Turquoise is derived from the French, pierre turquoise, meaning “Turkish stone,” because the trade routes that brought Turquoise to Europe from the mines in central Asia went through Turkey, and Venetian merchants often purchased the stone in Turkish bazaars.

Tourmaline

Tourmaline aids in understanding oneself and others.  It promotes self-confidence and diminishes fear.  Tourmaline attracts inspiration, compassion, tolerance and prosperity.  It balances the right-left sides of the brain.  Helps treat paranoia, overcomes dyslexia and improves hand-eye coordination.  Tourmaline releases tension, making it helpful for spinal adjustments.  It balances male-female energy within the body.  Enhances energy and removes blockages.

Lotus

In Buddhist symbolism the lotus is symbolic of purity of the body, speech, and mind as while rooted in the mud, its flowers blossom on long stalks as if floating above the muddy waters of attachment and desire. It is also symbolic of detachment as drops of water easily slide off its petals.

Tree of Life

The Tree of Life in its various forms is recognized in all cultures as a symbol of immortality and eternal life.  From ancient Chinese and Egyptian culture to Germanic paganism and Mesoamerica, it has been sought after throughout the ages. And, while depicted in many different contexts, the imagery across all cultures is essentially the same. Not to be confused with the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, the tree of Life is the tree whose fruit gives eternal life to all who might obtain it. In addition to its religious references, it is a reminder of our past (roots - ancestry), present (tree body - knots included) and future (fruit – labor and posterity). 

Om

Om, also written as Aum, is a mystical and sacred syllable that originated from Hinduism but is now common to Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism, Buddhism and the Bön faith.

According to the Hindu Mandukya Upanishad, which is entirely devoted to the explanation of the syllable, "Om is the one eternal syllable of which all that exists is but the development. The past, the present, and the future are all included in this one sound, and all that exists beyond the three forms of time is also implied in it". Although Om symbolizes the most profound concepts of universal creation including the three stages of existence (birth, life and death), it is in use daily. The devout begin their day, work, prayers or a journey by uttering Om, the symbol is enshrined in every Hindu temple and it is often found at the head of letters and at the beginning of important documents. Many wear the sign of Om as a pendant, and it is the first syllable of the sacred mantra "Om mani padme hum".
